This year, Chinese New Year festivities are back with a bang! You can partake in a wide range of activities such as countdown parties, large-scale parades, street light-ups, stage shows, and food bazaars. These events and activities are sure to make this Chinese New Year a memorable one.

Chinatown

A trip to Chinatown is an essential part of any Chinese New Year celebration in Singapore, in my opinion. It is the focal point of the festivities in the city and there you will find the streets decorated with lights and ornaments, as well as all the traditional treats like bak kwa, pomelo and more.

This year's theme for the holiday is "Leaping into the Prosperous Year of Rabbit", which signifies a fresh start, renewal and energy.

Illuminating Chinatown

An awe-inspiring light show will be on display from 7 pm to 12 midnight from 3 January 2023 to 19 February 2023, along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen, South Bridge Road and Upper Cross Street.

A Countdown to Grandeur

An electrifying countdown celebration will be held on 21 January 2023, from 10.30 pm to 1am at Kreta Ayer Square.

A Spectacular Weekly Stage Show

Be awed by the weekly stage show at Kreta Ayer Square, between the Buddha Tooth Relic and Chinatown Complex, on 7, 8, 14 and 15 January 2023, from 7pm to 9pm.

A Festive Fair to Remember

An exciting festive fair will take place from 1 January 2023 to 21 January 2023, along Pagoda Street, Smith Street, Sago Street, Temple Street and Trengganu Street, from 6pm to 10pm.

Wisma Atria

At Orchard Road stands Wisma Atria, where you can find a vibrant pop-up display with a life-sized Yusheng and seafood steamboat. There's also a stage and an inviting “Tree of Wishes that you can snap pictures at. Scanning the QR code at the Tree of Wishes will reward you with a can of Coca Cola from the vending machine!

Dahlia Dreams at Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay

The Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay will be hosting Dahlia Dreams, a celebration of the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Rabbit. From January 13 to February 26, 2023, the conservatory will feature 100 rabbit figurines, colorful and auspicious dahlias, and beautiful spring flowers, including a majestic magnolia tree.

Keep an eye out for my upcoming article on Dahlia Dreams at the Flower Dome for more information and coverage of the event.

River Hongbao at Gardens by the Bay

River Hongbao is an annual festival that has been held in Singapore since 1987. This year's event, taking place from January 20 to 28, 2023, will feature giant glowing lanterns, carnival rides and games, and performances by local singers and artists at Gardens by the Bay.

The event is free and open to the public during its designated opening hours, which are 6:30pm on January 20 and 21 and 2:30pm on the other days.

River Hongbao will also offer over 18 lantern displays, nightly stage performances, street food, and amusement rides. As a fan of the event, I highly recommend visiting River Hongbao if you want to experience the festive atmosphere of Chinese New Year in Singapore.
